Tunes to get you through your Tuesday

Wasn't expecting much from the John Roman remix contest for his song, 'Ready for this". Then i heard this bouncy disco infused bomb from American Troy Kurtz.

Next we have fellow American/s(?) Wine and Cheese. They have blown up over the bloggosphere in the past 2 weeks or so, and they are back with more. Throw it down, sounds like it could have come straight out of a cheesy 80's porno, and the guitar through the middle sections is pretty delicious if you ask me.
(Check out the rest of their tracks if you havent already HERE.)

Keeping the north American trend going, is Patlok who hails from Canada. This PNAU remix is unlike any other I've ever heard, and has the most amazing piano section at around the one minute mark of the song.

Dreadnaught

Having never been a big fan of drum and bass music it is usually a stretch to get me to listen to it at all. That all changed yesterday when i cam across the American Dreadnaught. With a name that means fear nothing, he is certainly not afraid to challenge the boundaries of this genre. He has converted this one time skeptic and I'm pretty sure he will do the same to all of you.

Bonus:
My favourite 'Nightcall' remix of all the several hundred ive heard.

Vuvuzelas are taking over the world...

This world cup has by far been the worst in history. That's because you have to watch the whole thing with your television muted to keep from going insane and wanting to jump through the tv and kill the cunts continuously blowing those fucking vuvuzelas. As if that wasnt bad enough, they are now taking over music. Someone please kill me!
Only joking, this take on the vuvuzela from Melbourne local Swick actually goes alright...

The Kids are Terrorists claim that they are not in love with disco, but i mostly certainly am in love with disco, and also with them. They deliver up another disco bomb here that will get you grooving in no time.

And lastly i believe that this is the last monthly mix that the world will be receiving from the duo Aeroplane :( For those of you who don't know, one half of the duo, Stephen, has left the group. The other half, Vito, will carry on the Aeroplane name and sound, but who knows if it will ever be the same?

For a Change

It's no secret to anyone that I am a sucker for a solid 90's hip-hop/R'n'B remix.
Well i came across one today that fits into that category. If you can make it through the intro, then this is sure to get the booties-a-shakin'. A little bit funky, a little bit electro, some added gun shots and a whole lot of Gangsta's Paradise is a winning combination.

Next up are the 5-piece outfit RESET! These crazy Italian's have given the Graffiti 6 track 'Annie You Save Me' a jackin' speed-funk makeover. These guys have been going crazy in the past year with remixes for the likes of Cassius, Alex Metric and Herve just to name a few. This is just as good as any of their previous efforts.

The Chemical Brothers new track Swoon has attracted a number of remixes both official and unofficial, but for me this one from local Gold Coast boy Blaze Tripp is the pick of the bunch. The super fast bouncy synth does things to me...

Finally Moonchild's new track, 'Girl' is one of my favourite tracks of the year.

Tunes for Thursday

Been a good week so far!

Seems like Down n Dirty DJs are busy boys these days. Here they have worked their magic once again on the Earth, Wind & Fire track, Boogie Wonderland. Love the vocal sample.

Now i usually try and refrain from exposing my ears to tracks from female RnB artists, but ive made an exception for my favourite Austrian's Struboskop and their funk-filled remix of Kelis' Acapella. Maybe i have been too quick to judge remixes of this variety cause i havent been able to turn it off for the past hour.

Next we have Canadian producer Mix Chopin and his funky-disco floor-filler, Bliss.
Watch this space!

Holy Ghost have been at it again this time bringing their unique disco style and applying it the the Monarchy track, Love Get Out Of My Way! A not-to-be-missed act at this year's Parklife festival.

Sydney-sider Beaumont is up next with my personal pick of the bunch with his feel good interpretation of Groove Armada's "I Won't Kneel"

Lastly is Aeroplane's Remix of Baby I'm Yours. Breakbot and Aeroplane, say no more!
ENJOY!

PARKLIFE 2010!!

Yes it is that time of year once again, as the first-announcement of artists for Parklife 2010 was released this morning. Parklife is now in its 10th year as a festival and organisers are looking to celebrate big time.

Whats first noticeably different about this year's lineup is the variety of genres on offer for the punters. This is the first year that will see a stage catering for those who are more indie/alternatively inclined with massive acts such as The Dandy Warhols and The Wombats both set to make an appearance alongside indie-folk act, Darwin Deez.

There is a strong local contingent included in the lineup with indie-electro groups Cut Copy and the Midnight Juggernauts as well as globe conquerers, Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP and crowd favourite Ajax.

Swedish giants Soulwax are set to grace the Parklife stage once again and if 2008 was anything to go by, their set will be one crazy experience that you would neither want to miss or ever forget! (As anyone who has ever seen them will tell you)

Hip-hop fans will also be happy with Missy Elliot returning to our shores for the first time in six years, and making their first appearance down under are the extremely talented Chiddy Bang. Added to this Mix Master Mike, of Beastie Boys fame, will no doubt have heads in a spin right round the country.

Also making his debut in Australia as a solo act will be Kele (Bloc Party) alongside fellow British acts New Young Pony Club and Jesse Rose. And appropriately as Parklife marks the start of the summer festival season in Australia acts such as Grum, Classixx and Holy Ghost! will fill the joint with fresh summer sounds!

And of course what would Parklife be without some Ed Banger flavour mixed in? Returning this year is the hugely popular father of it all Busy P, accompanied by the genre-bending DJ Mehdi and vocalist Uffie!

Now on the Facebook!

Check us out!

tickled my fancy!

The following tracks have all tickled my fancy over the last week or so, so i thought that i would share them with all of you!

the first track is a new collaboration of EC$TACY between tommie sunshine, figure and mark verbos. They have taken this fake blood classic back to its disco roots, and a time when tommie sunshine was probably in his prime! (quick fact, he is only 39!)

Next up we have Swiss locals, The Kids are Terrorists. It's pretty much impossible to sit still whilst listening to this disco bomb, with vocals to match!

Andrew Clarke brings all his many years of experience to the floor here with an ingenious edit of Toto's Africa. Put this song on, close your eyes and let it take you anywhere you want to go! It's just that good, and a song you will never get sick of.

Here we have got a collaboration stretching over the ditch with Melbourne boy DJ Agent 86 teaming up with Auckland based producer T. Rice to give this early 90's hip-hop/funk classic a disco makeover thats is a guaranteed party starter!

Last of all one of our favourites from the Struboskop crew, Techtrix shows us that he is no stranger to pop music with this down tempo mix that you will not be able to turn off!

a mixed bag

The first song doesn't need a write up, you will understand its brilliance the moment you first hear it.

Sticking with the TV theme i thought i'd share this hard hitting remix of one of my favourite tv shows as a kid, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ah, this song brings back some very fond memories!

Keeping the TV theme alive once more are late night specialists from Adelaide, Loot and Plunder(Captain Planet anyone??), who play alongside the biggest names in dance music week in and week out (yea apparently people in Adelaide have found out what music is). They are one the rise and this edit shows just why!

Venturing away from Tv, to movies this time, with great little bootleg from another local boy Benson.

Last and very much least, some shameless self promotion...
